Avengers: Doomsday’s Black Panther Hint Could Make Recast Rumors Come True

A new hint from the Avengers: Doomsday light show suggests that Black Panther could be recast in the Marvel Cinematic Universe. Rumors regarding Marvel recasting T’Challa’s Black Panther have been going around since the release of Black Panther: Wakanda Forever in 2022. Actor Chadwick Boseman originally portrayed the role of T’Challa in the MCU before he passed away in August 2020.

The recent Avengers: Doomsday light show in Shanghai has led many fans to think that T’Challa’s Black Panther might get recast in the MCU.

The light show was a part of Disney’s 2026 Merchandise Expo. It originally consisted of many panels of Doctor Doom showcasing his powers. With the Avengers theme playing in the background, the light show majorly emphasized Doom using his powers to shatter the multiverse.

Following this, fans can notice logos of the superhero teams confirmed to appear in Avengers: Doomsday, getting displayed. This includes the Avengers, X-Men, and Fantastic Four. Additionally, the mask of Black Panther was shown in the light show.

This has made fans wonder if it is a hint related to T’Challa appearing in the movie, which ultimately means a possible recast. Meanwhile, some believe this could simply indicate that Wakandans will appear in Avengers: Doomsday.

Although rumors of Boseman’s T’Challa getting recast have been swirling around since 2022, Marvel has previously denied doing so. While speaking to Comicbook.com in February 2025, Marvel Studios’ Nate Moore said that “there’s no truth to those rumors.” However, he then addressed a possible recast in the future. Moore stated, “Never say never to anything, we haven’t really had a lot of creative conversations with Ryan Coogler yet.”

Marvel head Kevin Feige was also asked in 2022 about the decision not to recast Boseman in Wakanda Forever. He stated that the decision to recast “felt like it was much too soon.”

Furthermore, it is rumored that Marvel might recast T’Challa in the form of his son. The latter was introduced in the 2022 movie.
