Anticipation is growing around Avengers: Doomsday. Early reports hint that Doctor Doom could play a pivotal role in a Multiversal conflict, with major consequences for Earth-616. For now, the specifics remain unclear, and Marvel has not confirmed any of these rumored details.
Doctor Doom has a ‘vendetta against the Multiverse’ in Avengers: Doomsday
Doctor Doom’s role in Avengers: Doomsday has been further clarified through a new report from insider Daniel Richtman.
According to the scoop, Robert Downey Jr. will portray a version of Victor von Doom who holds a “vendetta against the Multiverse.” This twist positions Doom as the central antagonist of the 2026 Marvel film, in stark contrast to Downey’s long-running portrayal of Tony Stark.
Richtman wrote, “Some news about ‘Avengers: Doomsday’: They’re wrapping filming this week, with reshoots planned for a later date. I’ve heard that Doom has a ‘vendetta against the Multiverse.’ Whatever that means, feel free to theorize.”
The insider also revealed that a large portion of the storyline centers around the Fox X-Men universe being on a collision course to destroy other realities, including Earth-616, the primary MCU timeline. This plotline directly ties Doom’s vendetta to the larger stakes of Multiversal collapse. Richtman noted, “This part isn’t too surprising, but a big chunk of the plot involves the X-Men universe being on course to destroy other universes—MCU’s Earth-616 included.”
Marvel Studios began production on Avengers: Doomsday in April 2025. The shoot is set to wrap soon, with reshoots planned later. Joe and Anthony Russo direct the film, which leads into Avengers: Secret Wars (2027).
Other than Robert Downey Jr., the cast includes Anthony Mackie as Sam Wilson/Captain America, Chris Hemsworth as Thor, Pedro Pascal as Reed Richards, Florence Pugh as Yelena Belova, and returning X-Men stars Patrick Stewart, James Marsden, and Ian McKellen.
Avengers: Doomsday is expected to unite multiple teams from across Marvel’s Multiverse to face Doctor Doom. He is likely to emerge as a threat not only to Earth’s heroes but also to the Multiverse itself. Marvel plans to release the film on December 18, 2026.
