Kelly Ripa Thought ‘Raw-Dogging’ Trend Meant Something Else

Renowned actress and TV host Kelly Ripa recently made an honest but amusing mistake when she confused the meaning of the ‘raw-dogging’ trend during a discussion with her husband and Live with Kelly and Mark co-host, Mark Consuelos. While talking about an infamous flight phenomenon that had taken over the internet last year, Ripa revealed that she inaccurately took the title of the trend for “something else,” stirring up reactions from netizens in the process.

During the September 11 episode of Live, co-host Mark Consuelos initiated a conversation about “people who love to stare at in-flight maps” to bide their time.

However, when Consuelos referred to it as the ‘raw-dogging trend,’ Kelly Ripa disclosed that she had wildly misinterpreted the term. (via Decider) “I love a map, especially if we’re flying over the Alps. Even out west, where you’re going over the Rockies,” Consuelos said of passionately looking at in-flight maps during long journeys. His wife corroborated his story by saying, “Yeah, you always announce to me what we’re going over.”

The Riverdale star then explained how this activity has become a global experience and even gave birth to a viral trend. “The practice got a blast of publicity last year amid a social media trend that featured travelers—mostly men—staring straight ahead at maps or blank space during trips to prove something,” Consuelos noted. After trying hard to remember the unofficial name for this frenzy, the 54-year-old media personality mentioned the term “raw-dogging.”

A clueless Kelly Ripa reiterated that “raw-dogging is when you stare at nothing,” before admitting, “I thought raw-dogging was something else entirely.” The All My Children alum continued, “I was reading articles about people raw-dogging on a plane, and I was like, ‘They should be arrested,'” suggesting that Ripa seemingly mistook it for a sexual activity.

Consuelos instantly acknowledged how misleading the term can be by saying, “When I was saying that, I was like, ‘I shouldn’t be saying this.'”
