In the build-up to the much-awaited release of Leonardo DiCaprio’s upcoming film, One Battle After Another, Chase Infiniti, who is making her big-screen debut in the movie, has responded to a rather awkward question regarding her relationship with the Academy Award-winning actor. In a recent media interaction, Infiniti was asked about her thoughts on addressing her veteran co-star as ‘daddy,’ landing the up-and-coming actress in a visibly tricky position.
Chase Infiniti talks about calling Leonardo DiCaprio ‘Daddy’
At the September 8 world premiere of One Battle After Another, which took place in Los Angeles, the Presumed Innocent star spoke to a plethora of entertainment journalists, including Variety’s Senior Culture & Events Editor, Marc Malkin.
In a surprising turn of events, Malkin forwarded an unpleasant question to Chase Infiniti, asking, “What’s it like calling Leonardo DiCaprio ‘daddy?'” Taken aback by the peculiar nature of the query, the baffled actress awkwardly responded, “Well, umm, did not think that it would be something I would do,” as per BuzzFeed.
While Variety has since deleted the clip, users on social media have caught on to their exchange, resulting in an intense backlash against Malkin. One infuriated X (formerly Twitter) user wrote, “Not Variety deleting the video of Mark Malkin acting a damn fool with Chase Infiniti on the ONE BATTLE AFTER ANOTHER red carpet.”
Another user called out the media outlet to take responsibility for the ordeal, stating, “All the love to Chase Infiniti, she navigated that red carpet moment with such poise, grace, and elegance. Variety should issue a public apology.”
Meanwhile, a third X user pointed out the awkwardness in Infiniti’s reply, writing, “You can legit see how uncomfortable she is. You can see how fed up performers are getting with these inappropriate questions.” The fan went as far as to say that “film journalists like this give profession a bad name.”
Notably, the contentious interaction between Marc Malkin and Chase Infiniti comes after she had publicly expressed her nervousness in participating in the press tour for the film. During an August 14 interview with Vanity Fair, the 25-year-old explained her thought process regarding the tour by saying, “It’s very scary, because I’m a very anxious person. What if I say the wrong thing?”
