Sabrina Carpenter gave an energetic performance of “Tears” at the MTV VMAs, where she also received three awards. The performance has since captured the attention of Pedro Pascal, who shared his reaction to the same on social media. The two had previously worked together on a Saturday Night Live sketch that was released earlier this year.
Pedro Pascal shares story of Sabrina Carpenter on Instagram
The Materialists actor took to his Instagram stories to share a still of Sabrina Carpenter’s “Tears” performance at the 2025 MTV VMAs.
The photo depicted the 26-year-old singer with wet hair, wearing a jeweled bra and black trousers. She could be seen standing in the middle with her head turned. Moreover, Carpenter was surrounded by two muscular men in police clothing and several men in casual wear. Her drenched hair and attire were a nod to Britney Spears‘ iconic rain-soaked moment from her 2001 Dream Within a Dream tour.
Pedro Pascal wrote in his story, “Again… @sabrinacarpenter,” accompanied by a crown emoji.

Notably, Carpenter’s “Tears” performance at the VMAs had an intriguing Pascal connection. During her performance, several stage performers pulled up signs related to advocacy of trans rights. Some of these signs included “In Trans We Trust” and “Protect Trans Rights.”
The Last of Us star — whose sister Lux came out as a trans woman in 2021 — has often expressed his staunch support of the trans community. Earlier this year, Pascal slammed author J.K. Rowling, notorious for her anti-trans views. He called her a “heinous loser” in the comments section of an Instagram post calling for the boycott of the Harry Potter franchise.
Hence, it’s possible that Sabrina Carpenter’s show of support for the trans community during her “Tears” performance impressed Pedro Pascal. This would explain why he shared a photo of the same on his Instagram stories in the first place.
On a related note, Carpenter addressed her performance of “Tears” and advocacy for trans rights during her acceptance speech after winning the MTV VMAs Best Album Award.
“This world, as we all know, can be so full of criticism and discrimination and negativity,” the “Espresso” crooner shared. “So to get to be part of something that can bring light, make you smile, make you dance, and make you feel like the world is your f*****g oyster. I’m so grateful to do that.”
