Channing Tatum opened up about his first impression of Kirsten Dunst in a new interview. The pair recently co-starred in Roofman, directed by Derek Cianfrance, who co-wrote the screenplay with Kirt Gunn. The movie will premiere at the Toronto International Film Festival on September 6, 2025, and will be theatrically released the following month.
In the crime drama, Tatum plays the notable real-life robber, Jeffrey Manchester. He is an ex-U.S. Army Reserve officer who became notorious for breaking into storefronts — mostly McDonald’s — via their roofs.
Channing Tatum talks about Kirsten Dunst in new interview
Channing Tatum recently appeared in an interview where he discussed his experience filming Roofman. During the discussion, the 21 Jump Street actor opened up about his meeting and interaction with Kirsten Dunst. Tatum and Dunst met each other on set while filming a scene that involved their characters attending a singles mixer at Red Lobster.
“She’s not a diva, where she could easily be, and have earned that,” Tatum said of the Spider-Man actress to Variety. ”And she’s not. She wants to have a cigarette and a whiskey with you and talk s**t.”
Also in the interview, Tatum and Derek Cianfrance, Roofman’s director, discussed the former’s preparation for his role in the film. The actor — who gained weight for his role in Josephine — asked the director if he could trim his weight for Roofman, to which the cinematographer agreed. Cianfrance noted that Tatum ”showed up to set 65 pounds lighter.”
The Magic Mike star shared that he had gained 240 pounds. “I was a big boy,” he added. He said that he would shred 30 pounds “in three weeks.“ Furthermore, he noted that he followed the “model diet,“ which was basically “starving.“
The 45-year-old praised his nutritionist and touched upon his dislike for vegetables. “I have a great nutritionist, and she’s helped me eat vegetables,“ he shared. “I don’t like vegetables. It’s a texture thing.“
Roofman will be theatrically released on October 10, 2025. Besides Tatum and Dunst, the movie also stars LaKeith Stanfield, Juno Temple, Peter Dinklage, Uzo Aduba, and Ben Mendelsohn, among others.
