NFL Commissioner ‘Welcomes’ Taylor Swift for Super Bowl

A little more than a week after Taylor Swift announced her engagement to Travis Kelce to the world, the pop sensation finds herself in the running to possibly headline the next Super Bowl halftime show. In a recent discussion, NFL commissioner Roger Goodell addressed the possibility of the pop icon performing at the 60th Super Bowl, causing many to speculate that the long-term league executive might have already struck talks about the proposition with Swift.

In a September 3 interview, Roger Goodell revealed that there is a chance for the “Cruel Summer” singer to take the stage during the halftime show of next year’s Super Bowl.

Talking about the said idea, the NFL commissioner noted to Today, “We would always love to have Taylor play. She is a special, special talent, and obviously, she would be welcome at any time.” However, when asked if the plan is already “in the works,” Goodell replied, “I can’t tell you anything about it,” labelling the possibility as a “maybe.”

The Super Bowl update about Taylor Swift comes just days after she and Kansas City Chiefs mainstay Travis Kelce shared a joint post on Instagram, confirming their engagement.

Goodell then moved on to other artists who might perform at the 2026 Super Bowl if things with Swift don’t work out. “I’m waiting on my friend Jay-Z. It’s in his hands. I’m waiting for the smoke to come out,” he said. Notably, Jay-Z and his entertainment company, Roc Nation, have been responsible for producing the Super Bowl halftime shows since 2019.

During the conversation, Roger Goodell also touched on the prospect of moving the Super Bowl to a different date. He disclosed that the NFL may reschedule the sporting event on the Presidents’ Day weekend, provided that certain conditions are met.

“I think if you went to an 18-week regular season, that would probably occur. It is possible somewhere in the calendar, could happen before that, just because of the calendar it lays out. But I think 18 weeks would get you to that point. I think it’d be a really great move,” Goodell explained.
