American Eagle has revealed that their shares spiked an impressive 25 percent in second quarter earnings, thanks to the “Great Jeans” campaign headlined by Sydney Sweeney in July (via Fox Business).
This was confirmed by American Eagle’s CEO Jay Schottenstein, who credited The White Lotus alum for the campaign’s success. “The iconic fall denim campaign with Sydney Sweeney affirms we are the American jeans brand,” he stated during the Wednesday call discussing the brand’s second-half earnings.
Schottenstein also shared that the July campaign, starring Sweeney, and featuring an enviable fall collection, resonated with customers across the board, resulting in a new customer base warming up to the brand and increased brand awareness amongst audiences from diverse demographics.
Additionally, Schottenstein confirmed that the company will continue to build on the brand’s success story, fuelled by Sweeney headlining the summer campaign.
For those unversed, the Euphoria star spearheaded the summer campaign for American Eagle with the tagline, “Sydney Sweeney Has Great Jeans”. The campaign received significant backlash from netizens for allegedly promoting genetic superiority, which was denied by the brand in an official statement released via their Instagram.
American Eagle’s denim campaign was compared to GAP’s denim campaign featuring the K-Pop girl group KATSEYE. The latter was praised for its themes of inclusivity, diversity and multiculturalism.
