Erykah Badu Revisits Her Infamous ‘P***y’ Incense

Erykah Badu recently recalled the creation of her infamous incense, which made headlines in February 2020. For context, she launched an incense that she claimed smelled like her vagina. In a recent conversation, she explained how she came up with the product and how much she enjoys making it for people. Here are the details from her latest interview, offering insights into her product.

Erykah Badu addresses viral incense

In her latest interview on Drink Champs, Badu shared more about her viral product, p***y incense, which took the internet by storm in 2020. Speaking about its creation, she said, “All I’m saying is, I’m giving you the gift of Badu pussy incense. And I want everyone to enjoy it. I enjoy making them, and I enjoy sharing them. I made the incense, but I didn’t make the legend. The legend made itself.”

When asked what the incense actually smells like and how she created it, Badu explained, “Most guys say that my vagina smells like strawberries and gunpowder. So I tried to duplicate that. I don’t know. That’s what they say… I don’t know where they’re getting the strawberries from, but yeah. That’s what they say. So I tried to duplicate the smell of strawberries and gunpowder. And I hope that I’m doing that.”

Back in 2020, Badu told 10 Magazine about her inspiration behind the product. She clarified that it was not connected to Gwyneth Paltrow’s Goop “This Smells Like My Vagina” candle. “There’s an urban legend that my p—y changes men. The men that I fall in love with, and fall in love with me, change jobs and lives,” she said.

Explaining the procedure, she added, “I took lots of pairs of my panties, cut them up into little pieces, and burned them. Even the ash is part of it.”
