Critics praise Austin Butler in their Caught Stealing reviews
The highly rated crime thriller revolves around the misadventures of ex-baseball player Hank Thompson, played by Butler, who inadvertently becomes the target of a gangster crew after agreeing to babysit his neighbor’s cat.
The Movie Minute‘s Joanna Langfield noted that “there’s fun to be had in Darren Aronofsky’s caper-esque newest,” before drawing attention to Austin Butler’s efforts in the movie, stating that the 34-year-old actor “proves in each and every scene, he is, indeed, a star.”
Meanwhile, Dionar Hidalgo of Algo Más que Cine gave the film a rating of 7 out of 10, noting that “Aronofsky dives into Tarantino and Ritchie territory with chaotic energy and dark humor.” Hidalgo also praised Austin Butler’s “magnetic performance,” adding that his acting helps keep the movie grounded while also “keeping the film watchable and fun.”
ComingSoon.net‘s Jonathan Sim mentioned that Caught Stealing does not “reach the artistic heights of Aronofsky’s best work,” but called it a “smart, well-paced, and fun ride through a version of New York that feels authentic and alive.” He also noted that the film’s “unpredictability and strong performances” make it a worthwhile watch.
Avi Offer of NYC Movie Guru also commended Aronofsky’s latest directorial venture by simply describing it as “an exhilarating, outrageously wildly entertaining ride.”
