Denzel Washington recently revealed that he’s grown tired of watching movies. During an interview to promote his film, Highest 2 Lowest, he shared his reasons for why he prefers not to see movies. The American Gangster actor also recalled the number of films he has been part of throughout his career. Here’s what Washington said.
Denzel Washington says he doesn’t watch movies anymore
Washington recently attended a GQ interview to promote Highest 2 Lowest, where he revealed that he’s not into watching movies. He said, “I don’t watch movies, man. I really don’t. I’m just being honest with you! I don’t watch movies! I don’t go to the movies. I don’t watch movies… I’m tired of movies. Yeah.” When A$AP Rocky asked him, “Is it because you make them?” he replied, “Probably.”
Director Spike Lee, who was also part of the interview, further questioned him about his filmography. He asked him about how many movies he thinks he has made in his overall career. Responding to the question, Washington said, “Too many. I think 50!”
Earlier this month, Washington also made a surprising statement related to the Oscars on the Jake’s Takes podcast. He shared that he doesn’t act to win an Oscar and admitted he isn’t interested in the awards show either. “I don’t do it for Oscars. I don’t care about that kind of stuff. I’ve been at this a long time, and there’s time when I won and shouldn’t have won and then didn’t win and should’ve won. Man gives the award. God gives the reward,” he added.
Highest 2 Lowest arrived in selected theaters on August 15, and will be available on Apple TV+ on September 5. It’s a crime thriller movie that centers around a renowned music mogul dragged into a ransom scheme. He struggles to maintain a balance between safeguarding his family and upholding his reputation, as one bad choice can spark a lot of trouble for him.
Apart from Washington, the cast also includes Jeffrey Wright, Ilfenesh Hadera, A$AP Rocky, Ice Spice, Frederick Weller, Dean Winters, and John Douglas Thompson, among others.
