Travis Kelce and Taylor Swift finally got engaged, and fans can’t stop talking about it. But what makes the story even more special is the behind-the-scenes detail shared by Travis’ father, Ed Kelce. He revealed exactly how the Kansas City Chiefs star decided to pop the question, how the moment was far simpler and more.
Travis Kelce’s dad Ed shares new details about Taylor Swift engagement
Ed Kelce said Taylor Swift and Travis Kelce’s engagement actually happened before the couple made it public. “Travis actually did the proposal, oh, maybe two weeks, not quite two weeks ago,” he revealed to News 5. He explained that Travis originally wanted to wait to make it a grand event. “[Travis] was going to put it off till this week. I think she was getting maybe a little antsy, but he was going to put her off till this week, to, you know, make some grand thing, to make it a big special event,” Ed Kelce stated.
But Ed and Taylor Swift’s dad, Scott Swift, both reminded him that the magic was in the gesture itself, not the setting. “I told him repeatedly, you know, you could do it on the side of the road, do it any place that makes it a special event … when you get down on one knee and ask her to marry you,” Ed Kelce said.
That advice led Travis Kelce to plan something more intimate for Taylor Swift. “He got her out there, they were about to go out to dinner, and he said, ‘Let’s go out and have a glass of wine,’” Ed recalled. “They got out there, and that’s when he asked her, and it was beautiful. They started FaceTiming me and their mother and her folks to make sure everybody knew. So, to see them together is great,” he added.
He also admitted that he had known about Kelce’s plan for months and had even expected his son to propose during the last NFL season. Still, seeing it finally happen left him emotional. “To just watch the two of them, just crazy about each other. It’s truly kinda neat,” he said.
