Kirsten Dunst Gives Update on Her Son’s Traumatic Health Scare

Actress Kirsten Dunst candidly spoke about her son James’ health scare while she was filming in Budapest, Hungary, during a new interview. Dunst has two sons with her husband, actor Jesse Plemons.

Kirsten Dunst on how her son’s health scare brought her family closer

Kirsten Dunst didn’t share details about the medical issues her son, James, experienced during her new interview with Town & Country, but she did explain the circumstances surrounding it. She was in Budapest filming for Ruben Östlund’s The Entertainment System Is Down when her husband and two sons joined her in January. The family subsequently rented a house in the Hungarian capital and admitted Ennis into a local school.

However, James experienced a serious health scare, prompting everyone except Dunst to return to Los Angeles. The Oscar-nominated actress stated that everyone is alright now, but noted how frightening those days were.

During her time alone in Budapest, Dunst used to watch a British cooking show so she could relax. She returned to Los Angeles for a brief visit in April, but she was still afraid for her son and even compared her time in Budapest to “Final Destination, where you’re imagining all the things that could go wrong, worst-case scenarios happening to your child.”

Dunst added, “I have never seen that movie. But I know the concept. That’s how it feels to be a mother at times.” According to Dunst, the experience brought her family together “in such a deeper way.” She revealed that they will soon go to the Bahamas for vacation. The family picked the place based on James’ requirements for a beach where his “sandcastle won’t wash away.”

Notably, Dunst and Plemons worked together on the sophomore season of the FX series Fargo, which came out in 2015. The couple tied the wedding knot in 2022 and have since appeared together in 2021’s The Power of the Dog and 2024’s Civil War.
