Kelly Clarkson is making headlines once again as she prepares for a major return to television. After stepping back briefly, the singer is rejoining The Voice as a coach alongside familiar faces. Fans will also see her back on screen with a new music special and the upcoming season of her talk show.
Here’s what we know about her comeback, her projects in the works, and the star-studded names joining her.
Kelly Clarkson finally comes back to The Voice
Kelly Clarkson is returning to The Voice as a coach following the recent death of her ex-husband, Brandon Blackstock.
TMZ confirmed that the singer, 43, will reunite with Adam Levine and John Legend on Season 29 of NBC’s Battle of the Champions. Clarkson missed one taping earlier this month after Blackstock’s passing, with Jennifer Hudson stepping in during rehearsals for the battle rounds.
Blackstock, who was married to Clarkson from 2013 to 2022, died earlier this month at 48. He battled melanoma for three and a half years before his death. The couple raised two children, River, 11, and Remington, 9. TMZ reported that Clarkson missed earlier tapings because of Blackstock’s illness. The show’s staff kept the news private to respect the family.
Clarkson has been a coach on The Voice for nine seasons. She served on Seasons 14 through 21, then took a break for Season 22, and returned for Season 23. With Season 29 currently filming, the series is also producing Season 28 at the same time. That lineup features Michael Bublé, Niall Horan, Snoop Dogg, and Reba McEntire. Reba’s role was initially uncertain because Blackstock was her stepson. Deadline confirmed she is filming as planned.
In addition to coaching, Clarkson will launch the seventh season of The Kelly Clarkson Show in early September. She is also starring in NBC’s four-part special Songs & Stories, premiering Tuesday night. The Jonas Brothers appear as the first celebrity guests. They reminisce about opening for Clarkson in 2005 and perform their 2006 track Year 3000, which mentions her.
Blackstock’s obituary stated he lived in Montana with his partner, Brittney Marie Jones, Clarkson’s former assistant. He was building Headwaters Livestock Auction and The Valley View Rodeo in Bozeman. Family and friends later held a private celebration of life at his home.
