AGT Quarterfinals: How Did Tom Sandoval React to Simon Cowell’s Criticism?

When Tom Sandoval took the stage for the quarterfinals of America’s Got Talent with his band, Tom Sandoval & The Most Extras, he aimed to deliver a memorable performance. However, the judges had mixed reactions, particularly Simon Cowell, who pressed his buzzer and candidly told Sandoval that the act “did not sound good.” Now, Sandoval has shared his perspective on the experience.

Here’s what Tom Sandoval said after Simon Cowell criticised his latest AGT perfortmance

Tom Sandoval admitted that his AGT quarterfinals performance didn’t go as planned, but he explained that a technical mishap was partly to blame.

“Right before I went on, my in-ears kinda went out,” he spoke about the audio monitors. “So I was flying in the dark there.” Despite that, the Vanderpump Rules star was quick to add he wasn’t making excuses. When Mel B challenged him on it, Sandoval emphasized, “I had a blast.”

The frontman and reality TV alum took the stage on August 19 with a cover of The Weeknd’s chart-topping hit “Blinding Lights.” While judges Sofía Vergara, Mel B, and Howie Mandel praised his energy and commitment, Cowell wasn’t convinced. “I like Tom, and I like the band, but it didn’t sound great,” the longtime judge said.

Tom Sandoval first auditioned for AGT back in June, where he impressed the panel with a cover of A-ha’s 1985 classic “Take on Me.” Moreover, joining AGT wasn’t just about music for Sandoval. He admitted that he saw the show as a way to spotlight his bandmates, especially after they supported him through the fallout of the 2023 cheating scandal that made headlines on Vanderpump Rules. “I thought to myself, ‘This is a really good opportunity to showcase the band—to get us out there,’” he shared.

Whether America’s Got Talent’s audience votes push Tom Sandoval into the semifinals remains to be seen.
