Sydney Sweeney has returned to Instagram with a new post weeks after launching her jeans ad campaign with American Eagle. The ad campaign has faced considerable controversy upon launch. Many criticized the apparel company for its perceived promotion of white supremacy. However, it has found some staunch supporters like Dr. Phil and President Donald Trump. In recent months, the 27-year-old has headlined several business ventures and ad campaigns that drew attention to her physical appearance.

Sydney Sweeney recently shared a series of behind-the-scenes photos from her latest film, Americana, on Instagram. The photo carousel prominently features two of her co-stars from the film, Halsey and Paul Walter Hauser.
“A few years ago I filmed this little movie with some friends and now you get to meet penny jo,” the Euphoria actress captioned the post.
Americana has a fresh score of 79% on Rotten Tomatoes as of writing.
The film has received mixed reviews from critics. The Weekend Warrior‘s Edward Douglas called the film “a strong directorial debut” for Tony Tost and noted that he did “a great job.”
Meanwhile, Screen Daily‘s Tim Grierson stressed that the film wanted “to present forgotten everyday people who possess endearingly unusual traits.” However, he opined that Tost’s writing wasn’t “sharp enough to allow his characters to rise above their mannerisms.”
Next Best Picture‘s Giovanni Lago praised Tost’s characterization of Americana’s cast. He wrote, “With ‘Poker Face’ and now ‘Americana,’ Tost proves he has a gift for creating oddball characters who get in over their heads.” New York Post‘s Johnny Oleksinski called the film “a copycat Coen Brothers yarn with the depth of a tortilla.”
The Playlist‘s Simon Thompson felt the film was “an exciting breath of fresh air.” He also called it “a palate cleanser with just the right amount of everything it needs.”
Americana premiered at the South by Southwest Film & TV Festival on March 17, 2023. It is scheduled to drop in the United States on August 15, 2025.
The film’s cast includes Sydney Sweeney, Halsey, Paul Walter Hauser, Eric Dane, Derek Hinkey, and Zahn McClarnon, among others.
