Leonardo DiCaprio was stopped by police security before entering an exclusive party in Ibiza, Spain. Officers inspected his pockets as part of a standard check for all guests, which included several other celebrities. Video of the moment has since surfaced online.
Here’s what we know about DiCaprio’s brief run-in with Ibiza police.
Leonardo DiCaprio searched by police in Ibiza
A video shows police security recently stopping Leonardo DiCaprio before he entered an exclusive party in Ibiza, Spain.
The 50-year-old actor waited with model girlfriend Vittoria Ceretti and friends at the checkpoint while officers inspected the contents of his pockets. DiCaprio, who was not wearing his usual face mask, appeared unrecognized at first by the Spanish police. A woman in the video is heard saying, “They are searching me right now, full on” (via Fox News).
Patrón and Spanish singer Arón Piper hosted the private event. A source said security required all attendees, including celebrities, to show ID and undergo pat-downs. After a few minutes, officers let DiCaprio in. Another source told the Daily Mail he joked with the officers during the interaction.
Among the guests were DiCaprio’s longtime friend Tobey Maguire, Kendall Jenner, Joel Edgerton, and Christine Centenera. The Daily Mail reported that DiCaprio maintained a low profile in his usual T-shirt and baseball cap.
A source told Page Six, “Every single person was patted down and ID’d. It’s funny, they did a double take and then he went in.” The search was part of standard security procedures for the event, not a targeted investigation. DiCaprio attended other high-profile events this summer, including July’s Summer Gala by Gala One in Saint-Tropez with Ceretti, Natasha Poonawalla, Christian Louboutin, and Jamie Foxx.
Speaking to Esquire in a separate interview, conducted from a yacht off Croatia, DiCaprio explained his downtime between films. “I take a lot of time off between films. I do things more sparingly… Life goes on hold when you’re filming. Everything stops and gets put on the back burner in your real life.”
