Travis Kelce Got His Breaking NFL News From Taylor Swift

Taylor Swift recently recalled a playful football-related moment during her appearance on the New Heights podcast. The singer shared how she found out about a major Kansas City Chiefs draft pick before Travis Kelce and couldn’t hold back her excitement. She described her animated reaction at home and how she ended up being the one to tell Kelce first.

Here’s what she revealed about the memorable exchange.

Taylor Swift told Travis Kelce about an important Chiefs drafting

Taylor Swift shared on the New Heights podcast that she learned about the Kansas City Chiefs drafting wide receiver Xavier Worthy before Travis Kelce did.

Swift, who began dating Kelce in 2023, recalled, “Oh my god, I fell in love with it. I became obsessed with it. I became a person who was running through the halls of my house screaming, ‘We drafted Xavier Worthy!’ And my friends were like, ‘Who body snatched you? What do you mean we drafted Xavier Worthy?’ I was screeching. I couldn’t believe it.”

Kelce said she was “the first person to tell me we drafted the fastest man in the draft,” adding that he initially doubted the news and “had to look this up” before confirming it was true.

Swift admitted she knew little about football before their relationship, but quickly became invested. On their first date, she mistakenly asked Kelce what it was like to face his brother Jason Kelce in the Super Bowl, later realizing they never lined up against each other. Less than a year later, she had learned terms like first down and tight end and was watching the NFL Draft live.

The Chiefs selected Worthy in the first round of the 2024 NFL Draft after trading up. The Texas alum set the NFL Combine record for the fastest 40-yard dash time at 4.21 seconds. During his rookie season, Worthy recorded 59 receptions for 638 yards and six touchdowns, ranking second on the team in receiving.

Swift attended several games during Worthy’s first year and has continued to study the sport. “We’re talking about Cover 2, Cover 4, Cover 0, man coverage,” she said. “We’re learning. I’m continuing to learn. I’m not ready to be an analyst now, but give me 16 months.”
