WNBA’s Green Dildo Barrage Fueled by Crypto Marketing Stunt

After growing incidents of people throwing a green dildo in WNBA games, many have questioned if the said pranks were conducted in a bid to promote a particular cryptocurrency. In recent WNBA matches, several attendees have participated in hurling female-oriented sex toys onto the court, raising several eyebrows. But do these stunts really share an association with a recently introduced cryptocurrency?

Yes, the WNBA sex toy incidents of late have a direct connection to the release of a digital currency titled ‘Green Dildo Coin.’

Essentially a memecoin, which usually gains real-world value due to internet viralities, the Green Dildo Coin became available for purchase on July 28, 2025. Just one day after its release, the first caper of such kind occurred in a WNBA match between the Golden State Valkyries and Atlanta Dream. At the game in Gateway Center Arena, someone tossed a green dildo onto the court.

Since the incident, a video of members of an online community dedicated to promoting the now-infamous memecoin has surfaced on X (formerly Twitter). In the clip, the participants admit to their involvement in discussions that encouraged people to throw green dildos in WNBA matches as a means to promote the aptly-named coin.

WNBA Players Association Executive Director Terri Jackson also addressed the bizarre stunts. She noted that “the league advised the players’ union that it was investigating claims that individuals were being incentivized to carry out these unsafe stunts.” (via San Francisco Chronicle)

Meanwhile, Minnesota Lynx coach Cheryl Reeve also opposed the hurling of green dildos at WNBA matches. She said, “The sexualization of women is what’s used to hold women down, and this is no different. These people who are doing this should be held accountable. We’re not the butt of the joke, they’re the problem.”

As of writing, a total of seven such incidents have occurred in fixtures involving the Atlanta, Chicago, Phoenix, New York, and Los Angeles teams. In accordance, the authorities have made two arrests in a bid to curb the matter.
