A new report reveals the US states that watch the most porn or NSFW content. Pornography consumption, despite its controversial nature, is prominent not only in the United States but also in the rest of the world. Over the years, pornographic content has managed to carve out a space for itself in various forms of media, whether it be print magazines, virtual reality spaces, or video streaming websites. Distinct types of porn have also emerged, catering to different kinds of viewers. Differing views regarding pornography have also surfaced; some believe that it is a safe outlet to explore sexual desires, while others believe that it is harmful and have initiated efforts to censor, if not abolish it.
Which US states watch the most porn?
According to a report from Kalon, California is the US state that has the most people who watch the most porn or NSFW content. The state has the highest porn-based searches and viewership. Moreover, California has viewers who have a preference for animated pornography, well above the national average. (via Vice)
Kalon pulled the data not only from clicks but also from Google‘s Keyword Planner and Pornhub’s 2024 U.S. Insights Report. They analyzed four areas:
- Overall porn searches
- Average time spent watching
- Genre-specific searches
- Curiosity-driven terms
Upon analyzing, they calculated the numbers per capita and matched each state with its most popular category.
New York comes in second place, with the state having viewers who prefer lesbian porn. This is followed by Texas, whose viewers also prefer the same category. Georgia comes in fourth place with ebony porn as its most popular, while Washington secures fifth place with lesbian porn. Notably, New York outclasses California in pure search volume, having 149,000 monthly searches per 100,000 people.
Washington’s ranking is rather intriguing. It became the state with the highest monthly porn searches at 150,000 per 100,000 people, but its rankings suffered due to lower scores in other areas.
Meanwhile, Hawaii comes in sixth place, with its most popular porn category being Japanese porn. This is followed by Nevada and Illinois, both of which have lesbian porn, like New York, Texas, and Washington, as their top genres. Finally, Florida shows up at ninth place with anal porn as its most popular, while Oregon is at tenth place with hentai.
On the lower-ranked side, Idaho, whose residents also prefer lesbian porn, is at the very last position with only 77,000 monthly searches per 100,000 residents. This is also the state whose porn-viewing activity is below the national average.
Arkansas, Montana, Wisconsin, and West Virginia complete the least-engaged list.
