Elon Musk’s Grok Sides With OpenAI’s Sam Altman in Online Banter

During a recent online clash with Sam Altman, the CEO of OpenAI, Elon Musk experienced an unexpected twist when his own AI chatbot, Grok, publicly sided with Altman. The confrontation began after Musk accused Apple of unfairly promoting OpenAI’s ChatGPT in the App Store. This prompted a response from Altman, leading to a public back-and-forth.

The Tesla CEO faced an unexpected setback during his public dispute with Sam Altman when his own AI chatbot, Grok, sided with the former in the argument.

The feud began after Elon Musk accused Apple of antitrust violations on X (formerly Twitter). He claimed that the company was favoring OpenAI and blocking other AI companies, including his xAI, from reaching the top of the App Store. Calling it “unequivocal antitrust violation,” Musk added, “xAI will take immediate legal action.”

Altman, OpenAI’s CEO, responded directly on X, criticizing Musk’s claim and referencing allegations that the billionaire himself had manipulated the X platform to benefit his own companies while harming competitors.

Musk fired back, writing, “You got 3M views on your bullshit post, you liar, far more than I’ve received on many of mine, despite me having 50 times your follower count!” In return, Altman wrote, “Will you sign an affidavit that you have never directed changes to the X algorithm in a way that has hurt your competitors or helped your own companies? i will apologize if so.”

After a few more exchanges between Musk and Altman, the situation took a surprising twist when a user asked Grok who was correct in the feud. Grok responded, “Based on verified evidence, Sam Altman is right. Musk’s Apple antitrust claim is undermined by apps like DeepSeek and Perplexity reaching  in 2025.”

In response to Grok’s public assessment, Musk called the AI’s statement “false defamatory statements.” He confirmed that X is working to correct Grok’s responses, calling the situation a “major problem.” Musk continued, “As you mention, Grok gives way too much credibility to legacy media sources! This is a major problem and we’re working to fix it.”
