The Olympic gold medalist has publicly responded to her recent domestic violence arrest, issuing an apology to her boyfriend, Christian Coleman.

Following the incident, Sha’Carri Richardson took to her Instagram stories to reflect on her actions. In a now-deleted video posted Monday night, she acknowledged putting herself in a “compromising situation.”

Richardson further stated that she was practicing “self-reflection,” as well as holding herself accountable. Moreover, she spoke about seeking help to “to reflect who I truly am in my heart and my spirit.”

Richardson wrote, “I apologize to Christian. He came into my life and gave me more than a relationship but a greater understanding of unconditional love from what I’ve experienced in my past.” She added, “I love him & to him I can’t apologize enough. On July 27, Richardson was taken into custody at Seattle-Tacoma International Airport following an alleged altercation with Coleman. She was charged with fourth-degree domestic violence and held for over 18 hours before being released.

The police report states that a Transportation Security Administration supervisor reported a disturbance between the couple. Upon reviewing security footage, officers observed Richardson reach out with her left arm to grab Coleman’s backpack and pull it away.

The 25-year-old athlete then appeared to block Coleman’s movement while he attempted to step around her. This resulted in him being pushed into a wall. The report further noted that she appeared to throw an object at him, possibly a pair of headphones. (via AP)

Meanwhile, Coleman declined to participate in the investigation and did not wish to be considered a victim.

In response to the incident, Christian Coleman described Sha’Carri Richardson to The Athletic as “a human being, and a great person.” He said, “She has a lot of things going on, a lot of emotions and forces going on inside of her that not only I can’t understand, but nobody can.”
