Jimmy Kimmel recently revealed his Italian citizenship, hinting that he might be leaving America in the future. The popular late-night talk show host made the announcement as he shared his thoughts on Donald Trump’s second presidency.
Here are all the details.
Is Jimmy Kimmel moving to Italy?
Speaking with his former girlfriend, Sarah Silverman, on her podcast, Jimmy Kimmel announced that he has obtained Italian citizenship. Although he has not confirmed whether he is truly leaving the country soon, the pair had a candid discussion about its significance in the current political landscape.
Silverman initiated the topic by observing how many anti-Trump Americans have begun to seek citizenship in foreign countries. Kimmel chimed in, confirming that he is one of them. “I do have… I did get Italian citizenship,” he revealed.
He continued sharing his disappointment with the Trump government, saying, “What’s going on is… as bad as you thought it was gonna be, it’s so much worse. It’s just unbelievable. I feel like it’s probably even worse than [Trump] would like it to be.”
Kimmel went to clarify that he had no bad blood with former Trump supporters who have since changed their allegiance and doesn’t believe in condemning people for their past views on the matter. “There are a lot of people… now you see these clips of Joe Rogan saying: ‘Why’s he doing this? He shouldn’t be deporting people.’ People go: ‘F* you, you supported him.’ I don’t buy into that. I don’t believe ‘F* you, you supported him,’” he stated.
The talk-show host concluded, saying, “I think the door needs to stay open,” Kimmel said. “If you want to change your mind, that’s so hard to do. If you want to admit you were wrong, that’s so hard and so rare to do. You are welcome.”
President Donald Trump has recently drawn a lot of criticism from late-night hosts after he publicly celebrated CBS‘s sudden decision to cancel The Late Show with Stephen Colbert. Trump made a Truth Social post in July, stating, “I absolutely love that Colbert got fired. His talent was even less than his ratings.” He went on to attack Kimmel as well, saying, “I hear Jimmy Kimmel is next. Has even less talent than Colbert!”
Colbert responded to the attack during his next monologue on the show, with a resounding “Go f*** yourself.” Fans and fellow late-night hosts rose in support for Colbert, who announced that he “can finally speak unvarnished truth to power and say what I really think about Donald Trump.” (via Variety)
