Darryl Dwayne Granberry Jr., better known as DDG, was reportedly arrested during a paintball tournament in the desert after an alleged swatting incident. Videos circulating on social media platforms have depicted the rapper and YouTuber getting detained by the police before being released later the same day. Consequently, “why did DDG get arrested” began trending online, as concerned swarmed the internet to find out the current status of the scenario.
What happened to DDG?
As per reports and heavily shared social media videos, the “Pink Dreads” singer was arrested during a paintball tournament in the desert. He was briefly detained before being released.
While the exact nature of what happened with DDG remains a mystery at this moment, reports have claimed that he was detained following a reported swatting incident. This was captured in a video that is being reshared all around X (formerly Twitter).
Swatting has been a growing concern in recent years. This refers to making false reports to the police to draw out an armed response. This was seemingly the case with DDG, who was released shortly after being taken in.
Meanwhile, another video also captured the police letting the rapper go. In it, fans can be heard cheering in the background as he is released. The ongoing desert tournament reportedly ended prematurely after the police intervened.
Currently, there remains significant confusion surrounding the events, as DDG has not yet addressed what happened. However, another subsequent video claimed that the paintball tournament host confirmed that the YouTuber was free and safe.
DDG originally started making videos in 2014 and soon expanded his content to YouTube videos. In 2018, signed with Epic Records, and two years later, founded his own record label, Zooted Music. His 2020 song “Moonwalking in Calabasas” entered the Billboard Hot 100, cementing his name in the industry.
For now, fans will have to wait to get a comment from DDG about whatever happened in the desert.
