Exciting Jurassic World Rebirth Rumor Hints at Sequel Details

A new rumor suggests a sequel to Jurassic World Rebirth is already in development. With the film set to release in the U.S. on July 2, 2025, reports claim Universal wants director Gareth Edwards and a Marvel star to return. If confirmed, it would signal the next chapter in the rebooted Jurassic saga.

Jurassic World Rebirth director and Scarlett Johansson could return for sequel

The speculation began when scooper @MyTimeToShineHello claimed that “a Jurassic World Rebirth” sequel is already in development and mentioned “they want Gareth Edwards back and Scarlett Johansson [is] also coming back,” fueling speculation about a potential fifth Jurassic World film. The phrasing suggests a sequel, though the word itself was notably absent from the original post.

Jurassic World Rebirth, released in July 2025, is the seventh film in the Jurassic Park franchise. It introduced a new cast and storyline, led by Scarlett Johansson as Zora Bennett. Directed by Gareth Edwards and written by David Koepp, the film follows a team of operatives and scientists on a mission to a remote island used for secret dinosaur experiments. Johansson plays a covert operations expert.

Universal Pictures has not announced a sequel to Rebirth. However, Deadline projected a five-day domestic opening between $115–135 million. The film premiered at London’s Odeon Luxe Leicester Square. Despite a 54% score on Rotten Tomatoes, its strong box office potential and international reach may support a continuation.

Johansson revealed she spent over a decade trying to join the Jurassic franchise, telling Vanity Fair, “Anytime the trades would report a new ‘Jurassic’ movie, I would forward to my agents like, ‘Hey, I’m available.’” She added, “I slept in a Jurassic Park pup tent in my bedroom… for a year.”

After meeting with Steven Spielberg, she was cast in Rebirth and worked closely with David Koepp on her character. She filmed on location in Thailand, Malta, and the U.K., and promoted the film through featurettes but declined to join social media, saying, “The film will do fine.” (via The Hollywood Reporter)

If confirmed, Johansson would be the first recurring lead in the rebooted storyline. Director Gareth Edwards has not confirmed his return.
