Do you ever sit down in order to type a status update on Facebook, only to be faced with the crushing realization that you have the personality of a particularly underwhelming grapefruit and are therefore unable to successfully type anything of interest? If so, then Facebook has seemingly released a new update directly tailored to you, person who is incapable of any original thought!
The minor change has seen the status update box, filled with the site’s permanent question “What’s on your mind?” now joined by a suggestion for a topic of conversation. I noticed the new feature today when it suggested that I tell my friends I was “feeling festive,” and later when it prompted me to discuss a sporting event.
Considering Facebook is now basically a cesspool of re-uploaded YouTube and Vine videos, and that its news feed is becoming more useless by the minute as it continues to only show you content from pages/people you’ve interacted with recently, it’s clear that the site is trying to encourage people to share their thoughts more by, er, suggesting to them what they should be thinking about.
Facebook has not acknowledged this change as far as I’m aware, so maybe it’s only receiving a limited roll-out. It follows another recent change made by the company in which they rolled out their new Photo Magic feature, which recognizes friends in the snaps you take of them, before creating a group thread in Messenger that allows you to share these photos in just two taps of your smartphone screen.
Facebook also recently began rolling out its ‘Year in Review’ feature once again, which provides a series of photo highlights of each users’ year that they can share with their friends.
