After a month-long break, Love Island USA returned for its finale episode, Reunion. Fans have taken to social media to express their disappointment with Nic Vansteenberghe. Some have even called him a “liar” and criticised that he is acting like a “victim.” But what did Vansteenberghe do to garner such remarks from the audience?
Here’s what happened on Love Island USA Reunion and why fans are turning against him.
Love Island USA fans criticize Nic for acting like a ‘victim’
Following a controversial and racist Instagram post, Love Island USA removed contestant Cierra Ortega from the show. Vansteenberghe and Ortega were a couple for a long time before her departure. But shortly after Ortega left, Vansteenberghe began to build a connection with Olandria Carthen, who soon became a couple on the show.
During the Love Island USA Reunion, the host, Ariana Madix, asked Vansteenberghe if he had a chance to connect with Ortega. He responded, “I have not, and I don’t plan on it either. Leaving the villa, I wanted to speak to her after I processed everything coming out in the first week.”
This did not sit well with fans who came in to support Ortega on X.
One post said, “Sorry Nic is a liar because he had NO plans to talk to Cierra when he left bc she was irrelevant from getting kicked off , so don’t know why he’s blaming her social media post for it. #LoveIslandUSA”
In another post, the user said, ‘Nic making himself the victim in the Cierra thing lawdddd #LoveIslandUSA”
For the unversed, Love Island USA Season 7 contestant Cierra Ortega was removed from the villa after her past racist social media posts resurfaced. The 25-year-old was accused of using anti-Asian slurs in posts from 2015 and 2020.
The Love Island USA Season 7 has concluded, and the date for the next season is yet to be announced.
