Legendary actress Christina Applegate has been hospitalized, and she currently remains on IV antibiotics to treat an infection that has caused her “so much pain” that she is “screaming.” The veteran actress gave a statement explaining what happened to her and how she is now.
Christina Applegate shares reason behind her hospitalization
Medics hospitalized Christina Applegate for a kidney infection that spread to both her kidneys. On Tuesday, August 5, 2025, she recorded an episode of MeSsy, the podcast she co-hosts with Jamie-Lynn Sigler, from her hospital bed. She has also been struggling with severe pain in her appendix.
In a recent statement to PEOPLE, Applegate revealed via a representative, “I’m home and have been treated for the kidney infection,” the statement added, “As far as my ongoing stomach thing, it’s a work in progress. I was there 7 days.”
Applegate told Jamie-Lynn Sigler that she began feeling unwell while visiting family in Europe. But then things got so bad that she decided to head straight to the hospital while on her return flight. “I’m like, I wanna be admitted,” she said. “I’m staying here because I want answers. I want every test that you can possibly think of or ones that you haven’t even thought of, and I want them done.”
The next morning, she woke up with pain on her right side. She recalled, “So much pain. I’m screaming, and they ordered me an emergency CT at 2 in the morning.” The scan showed that she had a severe kidney infection that had spread to her left kidney as well. Doctors reportedly believed the infection could have stemmed from a UTI.
Christina Applegate admitted, “I sometimes fall into the nurse’s arms like a freako, just like crying.”
As per her recent statement, she appears to be recovering. Her fans will hope to see her back on her feet very soon.
