Speaking on a podcast, the director shared that the video was fully shot before Swift shifted focus to another single.
Here’s what Joseph Kahn said about Taylor Swift’s music video
Director Joseph Kahn has revealed that music video for the track ‘King of My Heart’ was filmed in full but never completed or released. Speaking on the July 24 episode of the Ourselves podcast hosted by fellow director Arrad Rahgoshay, Kahn confirmed that he and Swift shot a video for the track before ultimately shelving the project. He said, “There was actually a ninth music video that we scrapped” (via USA Today).
Kahn explained that although the video was fully filmed, Swift made a creative decision midway through the process to prioritize a different single. He said, “We started shooting it. We never finished it because she switched gears in the middle of it to do ‘Ready for It?’” The director added, “She decided ‘Ready for It?’ was a better single, and just decided to go that way instead.”
Kahn noted that while everything was filmed, post-production work, particularly the visual effects, was never completed. He said, “Completely shot video, just the visual effects [weren’t done]. Because it was highly visual effects. Never finished.”
Kahn and Swift began collaborating during her 1989 album, eventually producing eight music videos and a commercial together. Their “Blank Space” video marked the beginning of a series of high-profile visuals he directed for her. This included “Out of the Woods,” “Bad Blood,” and “Wildest Dreams.” Their collaboration continued into the Reputation era.
Although this music video has not surfaced publicly, Kahn’s comments have sparked curiosity among Swift’s fanbase.
