Francis Ford Coppola assures fans he ‘is fine’ following hospitalization in Italy
Filmmaker Francis Ford Coppola has assured fans that he is in good health after undergoing a scheduled medical procedure in Rome. The Godfather director was admitted to Policlinico Tor Vergata for a planned update to his atrial fibrillation treatment. The procedure was performed by Dr. Andrea Natale, a well-known Italian cardiologist who has treated Coppola for over three decades.
As per The Guardian, initial reports from local media suggested Coppola had suffered a mild cardiac arrhythmia before the procedure and was being monitored by doctors. However, his U.S. representative firmly denied any emergency. The representative said, “Mr Coppola went in for a scheduled update procedure with acclaimed Dr Andrea Natale, his doctor of over 30 years, and is resting nicely.”
To personally address the speculation surrounding his condition, Coppola took to Instagram on Tuesday. He shared a message with his followers. “Da Dada (what my kids call me) is fine,” he wrote. The director added, “Taking an opportunity while in Rome to do the update of my 30-year-old afib procedure with its inventor, a great Italian doctor — Dr. Andrea Natale! I am well!”
The health update comes shortly after Coppola wrapped a multi-city U.S. tour promoting his independently financed film Megalopolis. The tour, organized in partnership with Live Nation, featured screenings and live Q&A sessions in six cities. It concluded last week at San Francisco’s Palace of Fine Arts.
