Here’s why ‘Taylor Swift VMAs 2025’ is trending
Taylor Swift has secured a nomination for Artist of the Year at the 2025 MTV Video Music Awards. Despite not releasing a new album during the VMAs eligibility period, her influence over the past year has remained substantial enough to earn her a nomination. The pop icon will compete against a strong group of nominees that includes Lady Gaga, Bad Bunny, Beyoncé, The Weeknd, Kendrick Lamar, and Morgan Wallen.
Gaga leads the field this year with 12 nominations across major categories. This includes Video of the Year, Song of the Year, Best Album, and several technical categories, including visual effects and choreography. Notably, Bruno Mars is next in the ranking with 11 nods, Kendrick Lamar with 10, and both Sabrina Carpenter and ROSÉ with eight each.
This nomination follows Swift’s success at the 2024 VMAs. She earned seven awards, bringing her total number of VMA trophies to a record-breaking 30. During her acceptance speech for Video of the Year, Swift also expressed gratitude to her boyfriend, Travis Kelce. She said, “When I’d finish a take, I’d always hear someone cheering from across the studio. Everything this man touches turns to happiness and fun and magic.”
This year’s VMAs will air live from UBS Arena in New York on September 7 at 8 p.m. ET / 5 p.m. PT, broadcast on CBS and streamed via Paramount+. Fans can cast their votes in 19 categories at vote.mtv.com. Although Swift and Beyoncé are featured in only one category this year, they remain the two most recognized artists in VMAs history.
