His sister, Francesca Ford, confirmed the cause of death in an August 5 statement on Instagram: “It was Chase’s own decision to enter Heaven.” She added, “His light will continue to shine eternally in the hearts of all those he touched throughout his remarkable, though far too brief, life.”
Filandro was remembered as a multi-talented artist. “Chase was a talented artist with boundless creativity,” Ford wrote. “He was a singer, musician, actor, teacher, artist, poet, and painter.” The statement added, “Chase was a beacon of light with a magnetic personality and zest for life that touched everyone he encountered, both in person and online.”
An affiliated acting school, Take 2 Actor’s Studio, described him as having a “vibrant spirit” and recalled “the joy he brought into every room.” Filandro also performed as a vocalist in the indie rock band Just Add Water, which played live shows across Long Island.

The family launched a GoFundMe to fund a memorial in one of his favorite national parks. The fundraiser has raised over $24,000 so far.
“My brother, Chase Filandro, was a shining light who had an incredible zest for life,” Ford wrote. “He was loved beyond words by so many and opened his heart to everyone he encountered.”
