As Rachel Zegler‘s Snow White controversy continues to garner discourse and debate, her Evita co-star James Olivas has come to her defense. Rachel Zegler’s co-star comments on hate she’s receiving

During a recent interview with The Hollywood Reporter, actor James Olivas weighed in on the intense criticism directed at Rachel Zegler in recent months. Zegler, who plays Eva Perón in Evita, has been the subject of intense scrutiny for her political stances. This includes her pro-Palestine activism and earlier controversy tied to her Snow White press tour.

Olivas said the actress had already become “notorious” in the public eye. Drawing a parallel to Eva Perón, he noted, “In very similar ways to Eva Perón, she was loved and hated.” The actor admitted that he had researched the backlash Zegler received and found them baseless. He said, “It’s people just choosing to be angry at her because she is a woman of color. And she is young, an easy target.”

Olivas also addressed the criticism surrounding Zegler’s Snow White comments, where some accused her of rejecting traditional elements of the story. He said, “Do you think that she’s the writer? Do you think she’s the director? She’s an actor, she was given lines, she was given a job.”

Zegler’s latest criticism came after Evita opened, where she steps offstage and sings “Don’t Cry For Me, Argentina” from the balcony of the London Palladium. Some people have objected to missing the live performance despite paying premium prices. Referencing the criticism, Olivas said, “There’s not been a single person that has come to see the show that has anything less than loved what that moment is in the theater and how it reads outside.”
