A new update on the legal battle between Blake Lively and her It Ends with Us co-star Justin Baldoni has unearthed new information from a text chain. The messages exchanged between the editors of the 2024 film hint that Lively had significant control over what sensitive scenes would ultimately make the final cut of the controversial movie.
What did IEWU editor say about Blake Lively and Justin Baldoni case?
On Friday, August 1, a series of online chats dating back to April 18, 2024, from editors working on It Ends with Us came to light as part of the proceedings in Blake Lively’s ongoing sexual harassment lawsuit against Justin Baldoni. The revealed conversation involves crew members of the film having a discussion around the intimate scenes of the movie and how Lively’s go-ahead would be required to alter them in any sense.
While contemplating keeping a particular sequence in the final cut, one person in the chain notes how Lively “has approval of that scene.” Further messages reveal that the Gossip Girl alum not only had control over sensitive scenes that featured herself, but also the ones that included Isabela Ferrer, who portrayed a young Lily in the movie. A person in the text chain, identified in the messages as “Henny Grace,” then explained that Lively “wasn’t part of writing that sex scene and didn’t want a character depicting her to have sex in high school.” They then go on to comment that “it’s all about control.” (via Business Insider)
Blake Lively’s legal team originally added the text chain into the case file of the actress’s lawsuit against Justin Baldoni as a sealed exhibit addressed to US District Judge Lewis Liman, who is currently handling the case. The step was reportedly taken to serve Robb Sullivan, who also features in the series of messages, with a subpoena.
The case is now moving ahead at full steam, with authorities recently conducting Blake Lively’s deposition in Justin Baldoni’s presence. The trial for the lawsuit will officially commence on March 9, 2026, in federal court in Manhattan.
