Mikal Bridges has put an end to the speculation surrounding his future by putting pen to paper on a new contract with the New York Knicks. Having first joined forces with the Knickers in July 2024, the 28-year-old has now renewed his deal with New York by signing a four-year extension.
Mikal Bridges inks $150 million contract extension with New York Knicks
Mikal Bridges has agreed to a new four-year contract worth $150 million with the Knicks, with his agents, Sam Goldfeder and Jordan Gertler of Excel Sports Management, supervising the negotiation.
Despite the significant amount involved in the deal, Bridges has opted to settle on a discounted compensation structure rather than his maximum extension number of $156 million could’ve allowed. He has reportedly agreed to such a fee in a bid to assist his side in maintaining their salary cap for further signings. Notably, Bridges, along with the likes of Jalen Brunson and Karl-Anthony Towns, played a pivotal role in leading the Knicks to their first Eastern Conference finals appearance in 25 years.
Bridges signed the aforementioned deal with just one year remaining on his original contract with the Knicks. The renewed agreement also includes a player option for the 2029-30 season, along with a trade kicker. Moreover, teams will not be able to trade the Villanova Wildcats alum within six months of him signing the contract with New York.
Bridges is coming off an impressive debut season with the two-time NBA champions, which saw him start all 82 games for the Knicks. During the campaign, he averaged 17.6 points, 3.2 rebounds, and 3.7 assists, leading his side to a third-place finish in the Eastern Conference. While they successfully overcame defending champions Boston Celtics in the conference semifinals, the Knicks ultimately crashed out of the playoffs in the conference finals at the hands of the Indiana Pacers.
