Drag Queen Jinkx Monsoon Mocks J.K. Rowling in New Interview

Broadway star and RuPaul’s Drag Race winner Jinkx Monsoon didn’t hold back when mocking Harry Potter author J.K. Rowling over her alleged anti-transgender remarks. With her signature wit and theatrical flair, Monsoon flips the script on Rowling’s views in a moment that’s grabbing attention across social media.

Here’s what Jinkx Monsoon said about J.K. Rowling

In a newly released teaser from an upcoming interview with Ziwe, Jinkx Monsoon mocked J.K. Rowling while shedding light on what she sees as the author’s hypocrisy regarding gender identity.

During the segment, Ziwe asked Jinkx Monsoon whether J.K. Rowling would “make a good Roxy Hart in Chicago.” The question quickly turned into a scathing, satirical moment, with Monsoon launching into a faux-drunken bit while purposefully misgendering Rowling. “Who is Jake? Who is he? Jake Hay Rowling?” Monsoon said, clutching a drink and squinting as if confused. When Ziwe corrected her, saying Rowling is a woman, Monsoon deadpanned, “Oh, dear. That is not a feminine name in the slightest.”

Monsoon used the interaction to comment on Rowling’s own history of gender presentation. She pointed out that Rowling used initials instead of her full name, suggesting it was to mask her gender identity as a female author in a male-dominated genre.

“I have to presume that J.K. Rowling was unsatisfied with the way that the world saw her, and then she transitioned herself into a new personality so that the world would perceive her the way she wanted to be perceived,” Monsoon said.

Rowling, whose full name is Joanne Rowling, has previously admitted she published her work under the name “J.K. Rowling” to attract a wider audience. Additionally, she writes her crime fiction under the pseudonym Robert Galbraith, which she has explained as an attempt to separate her mystery writing from her fantasy fame.

However, Rowling has since drawn criticism for her ongoing comments and activism against transgender rights. In recent years, she has openly opposed legislation in the U.K. supporting trans individuals’ ability to legally change their gender.
