Harrison Ford says he will never retire from Hollywood

At 83, Harrison Ford has no plans to step away from acting, and he has a straightforward reason why. “They need old people, too, to play old people’s parts,” he told Variety. With over 60 films under his belt and a career spanning six decades, Ford confirms he is still finding new roles, fresh challenges, and renewed purpose on both the big and small screens.

Ford’s filmography includes returning to many of his most iconic roles. The list includes Han Solo and Indiana Jones, as well as Rick Deckard in Blade Runner 2049. While discussing the making of Blade Runner 2049, Ford recalled an on-set incident with co-star Ryan Gosling: “[We were rehearsing a fight] and we got too close and I hit him. I apologized right away. What more could I do? Can’t take back a punch. Just take it.”

When asked about his recent Emmy nomination, Ford said, “I don’t think there’s anything competitive about creativity… I’m grateful, but I would have done what I did — and I’ll do what I’m doing — regardless of whether it’s deemed worthy of mention or not.”

In Shrinking, Ford plays a character dealing with illness and aging, and the series allowed him to explore new dimensions as an actor. Speaking about the show’s writers, he said, “They’re there to defend their stuff from whatever threat may come, either from the director or from the actors. I call them the ‘Poetry Police.’”

All in all, he summarized his continued passion for acting clearly: “It’s what I do. It’s what I love doing. I love telling stories. I love pretending to be somebody else.” After decades of critical acclaim, blockbuster success, and cultural impact, Ford confirms that he has no plans to retire.
