Chris Brown‘s latest U.S. tour might be hitting up venues, but it has also landed him in hot water with a Miami-based swimwear brand. The singer and his tour partner, Live Nation, are now facing a trademark infringement lawsuit over the name of his ongoing Breezy Bowl XX Tour.
Chris Brown gets sued for tour name
According to legal documents filed on July 30, Breezy Swimwear is a Florida company known for promoting body positivity through its annual “Breezy Bowl” event. The brand claims that Brown’s use of the same name has caused brand confusion and overshadowed their identity. The brand’s attorney, John Hoover, emphasized this point to TMZ. He said, “Celebrities do not get to overwrite small-business names just because they are famous.”
The core of the lawsuit centers on alleged “copy-cat branding.” Breezy Swimwear CEO Kris Izquierdo posted the court filing on Instagram. The filing claims the tour name and an associated swim line are “eclipsing the goodwill of Breezy Swim.” The brand argues that it has held the trademark for “Breezy Bowl” for years. It has used the name for a globally inclusive fashion event featuring models of all shapes and sizes.
Breezy Swimwear has hosted the Breezy Bowl since 2023 as an open-call runway show celebrating diversity in fashion. The brand has sold Breezy-branded swimwear since 2018, and its mission is to empower women of every background to feel confident in swimwear.
The lawsuit also points to real-world confusion among fans. One message highlighted in the documents came from a hopeful participant. The participant asked, “OK is Chris Brown gonna be there?” after mistaking the event for Brown’s tour. Izquierdo further shared that fans often reach out to the wrong Instagram account. They mistake the swimwear brand’s @breezybowl page for something affiliated with the pop star.
As of now, neither Chris Brown nor Live Nation has issued an official response. However, the legal complaint suggests that Breezy Swimwear is seeking to halt both the Breezy Bowl swimwear line and the Breezy Bowl XX Tour. The company wants to prevent them from moving forward under the disputed name.
