Netflix just dropped the official photos from Guillermo del Toro’s upcoming Frankenstein. The internet can’t stop talking about Mia Goth’s striking first look as Elizabeth Lavenza.
How did fans react to Mia Goth as Elizabeth Lavenza?
Fans flooded X (formerly Twitter) with their reactions after Netflix released a new batch of stills from the set of Frankenstein. The standout? Mia Goth, dressed in saturated blues and greens, channeling a ghostly elegance that left fans mesmerized. “I haven’t stopped thinking about this since it dropped,” one user wrote. Another added, “First look at Mia Goth in Guillermo del Toro’s Frankenstein, the costume design looks spectacular.”
In the newly revealed images, Goth appears in elaborate cerulean and sapphire gowns. She accessorizes them with a multi-strand opal choker and a face-framing peacock feather fascinator. Costume designer Kate Hawley, who worked with del Toro on Crimson Peak, confirmed the look draws inspiration from 1960s horror aesthetics. “Guillermo wanted her colors to be saturated. Red and green were a big thing, because there’s a lot of stuff in the film about blood, and also the fear of it,” Hawley said to Vanity Fair.
Goth plays Elizabeth Lavenza, the adopted sister and fiancée of Victor Frankenstein. Mary Shelley’s novel often idealizes this character as saintly and pure. In del Toro’s version, however, Elizabeth becomes a central emotional force in a story that spans beyond the tortured creator and his monster. One fan summed up the vibe, posting, “Mia Goth as the bride of Frankenstein… something just shifted in the air.”
Directed by Guillermo del Toro, Frankenstein premieres at this year’s Venice Film Festival before hitting Netflix in November. The star-studded cast includes Oscar Isaac as Victor Frankenstein and Jacob Elordi as the Monster. Felix Kammerer, David Bradley, Lars Mikkelsen, Charles Dance, and Christoph Waltz also appear in supporting roles.
As one fan dubbed, “Jacob Elordi as Frankenstein is dripped out, and Mia Goth looks incredibly gorgeous as usual and really fits the part. God I’m so hyped for Frankenstein!”
