Here’s how fans reacted to Jacob Elordi as Frankenstein’s Monster
The first glimpse of Jacob Elordi as Frankenstein’s Monster from del Toro’s vision has set social media abuzz.
Vanity Fair recently visited the Toronto set, capturing an intense sequence where Oscar Isaac’s Dr. Viktor Frankenstein assembles his creation. The scene unfolds in a sprawling laboratory hidden inside an 18th-century Carpathian water tower. It is a 360-degree set designed by Tamara Deverell that blends science fiction and ancient mythology.
Towering green glass columns glow a hellfire red. Silver mechanisms harness lightning from storm clouds, illuminating the eerie Medusa sculpture that oversees the horrific experiment. “I am an archeologist that creates his own ruins,” del Toro remarked. He said this while guiding the shoot, hinting at the haunting tone of his adaptation.
Elordi portrays the reanimated creature, whose design remains carefully concealed in this preview. Del Toro described the monster’s appearance as a marble statue shattered and painstakingly fused back together, lending a tragic and timeless aura. Interestingly, Elordi himself didn’t film the intricate assembly scene. Isaac performed with eerily lifelike props, each with its own identity, including “Yorick,” a bearded skull inspired by Hamlet, and a flayed cadaver dubbed “Canadian Bacon.”
Fans have flooded social platforms with reactions to Elordi’s casting and mysterious look. One fan wrote, “Why cast a handsome actor for that role?” While another wrote, “Elordi’s performance brings that iconic monster to life with haunting power.”
Set to premiere at the Venice Film Festival in September, Frankenstein will later stream globally on Netflix in November.
