Jeremy Renner talks about snowplow accident
Jeremy Renner recently shared that his acting approach changed following his snowplow accident in 2023. He stated that it took time for him to adjust to the idea of acting on-screen again.
“It was kind of a struggle coming back to fiction, when my life is more non-fiction than non-fiction can really be,” Renner told Empire Magazine. “It’s, ‘Am I gonna walk right again?’, and how much brain-focus it takes to sit and stand and lie down.” He further stated that “to exist” demanded “so much” of his “attention” and “focus.” This made him realize he wasn’t ready to resume acting yet.
However, Renner felt motivated to return to acting one year later. This is because he “got to a place physically” where he thought he was “ready to go back.” He added, “I want to get back to life, I have to be social, and also get people back in their jobs.”
The Marvel star explained that his return to acting faced challenges. He noted that he “struggled the first couple of weeks” while filming Mayor of Kingstown Season 3, adding that a lot of people helped him out. “I did a stunt the second week and we were all wondering, ‘What’s gonna happen?'” he shared. “And it went great, and there was a big sigh of relief. It was pretty emotional.”
The Wind River star stressed that his snowplow accident and subsequent physical recovery reignited his focus on family and determined how he chose work moving forward. He explained, “The decision-making is, ‘I’ll never work again unless it’s with the people I want to work with, and my family can be there, or my daughter can be there, or my friends can be there.'”
He elaborated, “I didn’t see any of my career, or my jobs, when I died. Nothing. Not one clip. It was all just the love experiences that I had. So I’ll continue to water that garden with the people I love.”
Renner revealed that he took “15 family members” with him to London last summer for Wake Up Dead Man: A Knives Out Mystery’s shoot. He said he did it as he “could bring them all.”
