Vanessa Kirby Says Fake Belly Was ‘Heavier’ Than Actual Baby Bump

Vanessa Kirby recently spoke about wearing a fake belly in The Fantastic Four: First Steps and how it compares to her real baby bump. The Fantastic Four: First Steps star Vanessa Kirby recently appeared on Seth Meyers’ Late Night show, where she shared her experience wearing the fake baby bump in the Marvel movie.

Kirby, who is currently pregnant with her first child, revealed that the fake belly she wore in the Fantastic Four movie gave her a “backache.” She described what her fake belly consisted of and how she later regretted requesting it to be heavier.

Kirby said, “The fake belly is like a foam thing. When it’s a foam, it feels very light and a bit silly. So I kept saying to Flick, who looks after my costume, ‘I want more. It needs to be heavier.'” She added, “We would try all these different things and eventually she kind of put heavy rice packets in the belly and it got so heavy, [and] I got really bad backache.”

However, now that Kirby is pregnant, she stated that her real baby bump is “way lighter” than the fake one. Kirby also conveyed how people thought her real-life pregnancy was “a stunt of some kind” to promote The Fantastic Four: First Steps. But she described it as “crazy timing.”

In the Marvel film, Kirby plays the role of Sue Storm, aka the Invisible Woman, who is pregnant with her and Reed Richards’ son, Franklin.

The movie is currently playing in theaters.
