Grammy nominee GloRilla got arrested by Georgia authorities on felony drug charges. The arrest followed a burglary at her Forsyth County home, where investigators discovered a “significant amount of marijuana” during their search. Here’s what happened.
What happened to Rapper GloRilla?
Deputies responded around 1:30 a.m. to reports of a burglary in progress at GloRilla’s residence. According to the Forsyth County Sheriff’s Office, three suspects had entered the home and “were in the process of stealing items when an armed occupant fired at the intruders.” “The suspects fled the scene, and it does not appear that any of them were struck,” the sheriff’s office said, adding, “No injuries were reported among the home’s occupants.” (via People)
Investigators told WSB-TV that the intruders were attempting to make off with valuables when gunfire drove them out. Woods’ legal team later stated that her family was “traumatized by the violent entrance” and that the suspects had stolen “high-value jewelry.” (via Washington Post)
Due to the gunfire, detectives arrived on the scene to process evidence. During the walkthrough, deputies said they “detected a strong odor consistent with illegal narcotics,” prompting a call to the Drug Task Force. Authorities then obtained a search warrant and entered the property. Inside the master bedroom closet, they found marijuana, along with a Schedule I controlled substance.
Though marijuana use has been decriminalized in parts of the U.S., Georgia still enforces strict drug laws. In Forsyth County, possession of more than an ounce of marijuana is considered a felony, carrying a potential prison sentence of 1-10 years.
GloRilla wasn’t home during the burglary, but she voluntarily turned herself in to the Forsyth County Jail on Tuesday, July 22. Authorities charged her with felony possession of marijuana and possession of a Schedule I controlled substance. She was released the same day after posting a $22,260 bond.
