‘The Giver Taylor Swift’ Trends as Fans Resurface Singer’s Cameo

The 2014 movie The Giver has recently started trending as fans have discovered that Taylor Swift appeared in the sci-fi film. It was directed by Phillip Noyce from a script penned by Michael Mitnick and Robert B. Weide and based on Lois Lowry’s 1993 novel of the same name. Jeff Bridges, Meryl Streep, Brenton Thwaites, Odeya Rush, Alexander Skarsgård, and Katie Holmes also star in the film.

Here’s everything fans need to know about Taylor Swift’s cameo in The Giver.

‘The Giver Taylor Swift’ trend explained

Taylor Swift cameoed in The Giver as Rosemary.

In the film, following a calamity known as “The Ruin,” society becomes heavily reshaped and people lose all sense of emotion — both good and bad. After the event, babies are conceived via genetic engineering, while people suppress intense emotions and sexual desire through medication. Moreover, memories of the old times before The Ruin are entrusted to a figure called The Receiver, who, along with their protégé, is the only one who can see in color.

Swift’s Rosemary, who is the daughter of Jeff Bridges‘ The Giver, becomes The Receiver. Unfortunately, during her training, she becomes distraught from the memories she receives, as they contain great loss and pain. Subsequently, she asks to be “released” — a euphemism for euthanasia by injection — resulting in her dying by suicide. Rosemary is succeeded as the Receiver by Jonas, played by Brenton Thwaites.

According to the film’s director, Phillip Noyce, Swift had dyed her hair brown for the film to remove the pop-star image she cultivated. “We just tried to make her distinctive and un-Taylor-like,” Noyce stated. (via Variety)

Moreover, Scooter Braun, who served as an executive producer on The Giver, shared that the “Bad Blood” singer was pitched the film by producers backstage at her concert in Los Angeles. Furthermore, Michael Mitnick, who co-wrote the film, revealed that his cousin, actor Tobin Mitnick, was Swift’s “first crush.” He added that it was through him that Swift started texting Tobin, her “seventh-grade sweetheart,” and that the latter also “had a crush” on her. “They were in middle school. It was a very innocent thing,” he added.

The Giver is not Taylor Swift’s only acting credit. She has also appeared in projects like The Lorax, Valentine’s Day, and Amsterdam.
