Sandra Oh did not hold back during her recent appearance on The Late Show with Stephen Colbert. She addressed the show’s cancellation with a seemingly threatening message aimed directly at CBS and its parent company, Paramount.
What did Sandra Oh say about Stephen Colbert show cancellation?
Sandra Oh openly criticized CBS and its parent company Paramount during her appearance on The Late Show with Stephen Colbert, reacting to the show’s recent cancellation.
Early in the July 21 episode, the actress interrupted the usual format to express frustration and disappointment over the decision. Addressing Colbert directly, she said, “I am so sorry and saddened and properly outraged for the cancellation of late night here.” She continued, noting that the decision affected not just the show’s staff, but reflected issues around culture and free speech.
Taking Colbert’s hand, Oh went further, directing her words toward CBS and its parent company, “So I just want to say sorry, and also if I can have your hand, to CBS and Paramount, a plague on both of your houses.” Colbert responded with appreciation, but Oh added, “And also a pox on all those they serve.” Colbert thanked her again, saying, “That’s very nice of you to say. Very kind.”
CBS recently announced the cancellation of The Late Show, attributing the decision to financial concerns. However, the move has sparked widespread backlash and skepticism. This is due to Paramount’s ongoing merger efforts with Skydance, a deal that would require approval from the Trump administration.
The controversy escalated after Colbert publicly criticized Paramount for its recent $16 million settlement with Donald Trump’s foundation related to a 60 Minutes interview with former Vice President Kamala Harris.
The Late Show, originally launched with David Letterman in 1993, is scheduled to end its run with Colbert in May 2026.
