Here’s how fans reacted to the picture on social media:
“Sports girls on TOP thus is going to be amazing,” a fan commented under the above Instagram post. “OH I AM SO HYPED!!” another fan added.
On X (formerly Twitter), a fan suggested that the Euphoria alum was eyeing an Oscar nomination and wrote, “oh she’s coming for that oscar nomination!”
Meanwhile, another user compared Sweeney’s physical transformation for Christy Martin to Charlize Theron’s appearance in Monster. For context, in Monster, Theron essayed real-life serial killer Aileen Wuornos. She had a rough look in the movie, similar to Sweeney’s Martin in the recently shared picture.
Sydney Sweeney — who gained over 30 pounds to essay Martin — opened up about her transformation in a W Magazine interview last month. In it, the Anyone But You actress described her training process, saying she trained for the role for “about three and a half months.”
She stated, “I started eating. I weight-trained in the morning for an hour, kickboxed midday for about two hours, and then weight-trained again at night for an hour.” The Immaculate actress explained that her body became “completely different” after her training, recalling how she “didn’t fit” in her clothes.
“I’m usually a size 23 in jeans, and I was wearing a size 27,” she added. “My boobs got bigger. And my butt got huge. It was crazy! I was like, ‘Oh my god.'”
However, Sweeney enjoyed the training process, calling it “amazing,” and noting that she became “crazy strong.”
Christy currently does not have a U.S. theatrical release date.
