Travis Kelce Skips Happy Gilmore 2 Premiere Amid Adam Sandler Praise

The Happy Gilmore 2 premiere recently took place on Monday in New York City, and while the event featured most of the movie’s main cast, such as Adam Sandler and Bad Bunny, Travis Kelce was nowhere to be found. Due to this, fans have been wondering why the Kansas City Chiefs tight end — who has a cameo in the film — did not show up.

The sports comedy, which is set to launch on Netflix this Friday, is the NFL star’s first major movie role. The 35-year-old previously appeared in a recurring capacity in the FX horror drama series, Grotesquerie, where he played Ed Laclan.

So, why was Travis Kelce absent from the Happy Gilmore 2 premiere, and did his absence have anything to do with his NFL training? Here’s what we have learned.

Here’s why Travis Kelce skipped Happy Gilmore 2 premiere

Travis Kelce skipped the Happy Gilmore 2 premiere as he was busy at the Kansas City Chiefs’ training camp, gearing up for the upcoming NFL season.

Despite his absence, the Kansas City Chiefs star player received praise from the sports comedy’s lead actor, Adam Sandler. In an interview with The Hollywood Reporter, the 58-year-old claimed that Kelce and Bad Bunny were “so confident” and “so funny.”

“They’re gonna go on and do whatever the hell they want,” Sandler added. The Murder Mystery actor expressed interest in working with them again. He noted that he “got very friendly with them,” and loved them both.

Kelce was not the only one involved in the movie who decided to sit out the premiere. Justin Thomas and Jack Nicklaus, who reportedly have roles in the sports comedy, also did not turn up. In the film, Kelce cameos as a hotel employee who shares a scene with Bad Bunny.

The movie premiere featured appearances from multiple high-profile celebrities outside the film’s cast. These included Jimmy Fallon, John Cena, internet personality Alix Earle, Hot Ones host Sean Evans, and Sandler’s frequent collaborator and fellow actor Steve Buscemi.

Happy Gilmore 2 releases on Netflix on July 25, 2025. Besides Sandler, Kelce, and Bad Bunny, the film stars Julie Bowen, Sunny Sandler, Christopher McDonald, and Ben Stiller, among others.
