Julie Bowen recently opened up about working alongside NFL star Travis Kelce in the upcoming Netflix sequel Happy Gilmore 2.

In a recent chat with TMZ Sports in New York City, the Modern Family star expressed her admiration for Kelce’s on-screen presence. Bowen said, “Please, is anybody surprised? He’s a star. He’s always been a star.” She added, “He continues to be a star.” She also offered kind words for fellow castmate Bad Bunny, describing his performance as “amazing.”

Bowen is reprising her role as Virginia Venit, returning to the beloved comedy franchise nearly three decades after the original Happy Gilmore premiered. She joins an ensemble that includes Adam Sandler as Happy Gilmore, Christopher McDonald back as Shooter McGavin, and Ben Stiller once again playing the character Hal.

While Netflix has kept much of the plot and character details under wraps, a teaser trailer suggests that Bad Bunny will serve as Happy’s caddie. On the other hand, Kelce appears to portray a waiter or club attendant. In addition to Kelce and Bad Bunny, the sequel features a star-studded lineup of cameos. This includes Eminem, Margaret Qualley, Eric André, Sunny Sandler, Benny Safdie, and so on.

Bowen previously spoke about her surprise at being invited back for Happy Gilmore 2. On the Inside of You podcast, she admitted she initially assumed the production would recast a younger actress. The actress said, “I didn’t think they’d bring me back at all. I mean…who am I supposed to be? He’s got to have a younger woman in this one, ‘Happy Gilmore 2.’” The sequel is set to hit Netflix on July 25.
