Shock and grief have spread across the entertainment world following reports of a tragic death in Duane “Dog the Bounty Hunter” Chapman’s family. His 13-year-old step-grandson, Anthony Zecca, died over the weekend in what has been described as an accidental shooting. The circumstances remain under investigation, but the incident has drawn widespread attention due to its heartbreaking nature and the family’s public profile.
Here’s what we know about the death of Anthony Zecca.
Dog Bounty Hunter’s grandson cause of death explained
Gregory Zecca reportedly shot and killed his 13-year-old son, Anthony Zecca, in an accidental shooting Saturday night at his apartment in Naples, Florida, according to TMZ. Anthony was the step-grandson of Duane “Dog the Bounty Hunter” Chapman.
Zecca, the son of Chapman’s wife Francie Frane, works as part of Chapman’s bounty hunting team. Law enforcement told TMZ they responded to a shooting call around 8 p.m. ET. The Collier County Sheriff’s Office described the case to the Naples Daily News as an “isolated incident.” Authorities have not made any arrests, and the investigation remains ongoing.
In a statement to TMZ, the Chapman family said, “We are grieving as a family over this incomprehensible tragic accident and would ask for continued prayers as we grieve the loss of our beloved grandson, Anthony.” They also requested privacy.
Photos shared on Gregory Zecca’s Instagram show his interest in firearms. In 2021, he took his son to a gun range and a gun store.
Chapman married Francie Frane in 2021 after the deaths of their respective spouses. Frane told Entertainment Tonight in 2020, “We understood the pain that the other one was feeling and [in] those tough days and moments, we helped each other stand up.”
Frane and her sons quickly adapted to Chapman’s lifestyle. On The Dr. Oz Show, Chapman said, “Her and her two sons have hunted bow hunt, so they track, they look for things that the prey leaves behind. She just fit right in.” (via The New York Post)
Chapman, 72, was previously married to Beth Chapman, who died in 2019 from throat cancer. He has 13 children with six different women, but was married only four times. The Collier County Sheriff’s Office has not released the names of those involved publicly.
