Pedro Pascal explained the meaning of the word “c—y” to Vanessa Kirby in a recent press interview for The Fantastic Four: First Steps. The upcoming superhero film, releasing later this month, will serve as the second reboot of Marvel’s Fantastic Four franchise. In the movie, Pascal essays Reed Richards, AKA Mister Fantastic, while Kirby portrays his wife, Sue Storm, AKA Invisible Woman.
Pedro Pascal explains meaning of ‘c—y’ to Vanessa Kirby
The two co-stars recently gave an interview with Pedestrian TV, where Vanessa Kirby heaped praise on the Materialists actor. During the discussion, the interviewer told her that she had become a popular figure on social media due to her “force field snatched c—y fierceness face.”
Stunned by the interviewer’s words and unsure of what “c—y” meant, the Napoleon actress replied, “I don’t know if that’s a good thing.” However, Pedro Pascal assured her, saying it was “a good thing.”
“C—y face just means fierce, fabulous, beautiful, strong. It’s good, it’s good,” The Last of Us star added, offering his interpretation of the word’s meaning.
Meanwhile, in an interview with Glamour Magazine, linguist Adam Aleksic said that “c—t” was kind of “a synonym of camp,” and also meant “ironically cool.”
Aleksic told the outlet that the word initially had misogynistic roots. However, it was reclaimed in the 1980s Black and Latino queer ballroom or drag culture, wherein the racial communities were “organized into different houses.” He noted that the Blacks and Latinos shared “a bunch of localized slang” across houses.
“And it used to connect to each other, to forge a linguistic identity separate from the straight white norms of the English language,” Aleksic added. “That’s why this language was being created, as a form of identity.”
Moreover, the linguist explained how “c—t” reached widespread usage. He talked about a phenomenon known as context collapse. In it, other people hear people saying “c—t” and replicate it, not understanding it’s not meant for them. He noted that social media “accelerated the normalization or neutralization” of the word.
The Fantastic Four: First Steps launches into theaters on July 25, 2025. Besides Pedro Pascal and Vanessa Kirby, the film also stars Joseph Quinn and Ebon Moss-Bachrach.
